Who We Are

Associates in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, PC (APM&R), was founded in 1985. The practice, which is associated with St. Joseph Mercy Health System (www.sjmercyhealth.org) serves the greater Ann Arbor area, with three locations in Washtenaw, Wayne and Livingston Counties: Ypsilanti, Canton and Brighton. APM&R doctors also oversee rehabilitation services at a number of facilities, including Heartland Health Care, Glacier Hills Retirement Home, Rainbow Rehabilitation, Special Tree Rehabilitation and others.

Pain and Rehabilitation Specialists

As physical medicine and rehabilitation doctors (also called physiatrists), APM&R doctors are specialists in treating pain and helping patients recover lost function. They have 10–30 years of experience each in multiple specialty areas of physical medicine, and several have been named among the Best Doctors in America® for a number of years.

Treating the Whole Person

APM&R physicians can also assemble and coordinate a team of physicians and specialists across multiple practice areas that can help the patient with cognitive and emotional problems, along with physical issues. This enables us to achieve the goal of helping the person to become as independent as possible with the function that they have available and to help the family, school or workplace understand how to assist the patient as well. Our approach supports physical medicine doctors’ emphasis on treating the whole person, rather than just the problem area.

Non-Surgical Treatment Options

In addition, the doctors at Associates in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offer both traditional and non-traditional treatment options for pain, injury and disease, including:

  • Electromyography (EMG)
  • Medical Acupuncture
  • Motor Point Blocks
  • Botulin Toxin Therapy
  • Therapeutic Injections
  • Manual Therapy
  • Prolotherapy
  • Spinal Injections
  • Epidural Facet Blocks
  • Cervical Lumbar Epidurals

Personalized Medical Care

Our patients see and work with their doctor directly (rather than through doctor “extenders”). Doctors take time to answer patients’ and their families’ questions and make sure patients understand their medical condition and prescribed treatment.
